The first on our long list of DC COMICS heroes is A.R.G.U.S. – Let’s begin!
A.R.G.U.S. (Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Heroes) made their debut in Justice League (Vol.2) #7 – Released back in May 2012.
Officially, A.R.G.U.S. was created by the US President as America’s official government liason to the Justice League. With Steve Trevor in command, the agency provided financial support and clean-up services, but its real purpose was to spy on seemingly all-powerful Super Heroes.
Over a period of five years, Trevor expanded the organization’s remit to include the monitoring of all metahuman and unnatural threats. A.R.G.U.S. agents confiscated mystical artifacts and advanced technologies, policed extra-dimensional incursions, and covertly battled monsters, villains, and Super Heroes acting against the perceived interests of the US and Humanity. These threats were neutralized, deposited in classified research vaults known as the Black Room, the Red Room, and Circus.
When Amanda Waller replaced Trevor, she created the Justice League of America as as a secret weapon in case the original heroes should ever go rogue.
Unproven stories persist that the A.R.G.U.S. organization has effectively existed ever since the Revolutionary War. When Civil War divided the country several decades later, it became known as the Anonymous Ranger Group of the United States.
