Warner Bros’. upcoming debut film: Aquaman, has found its antagonist! The film will reportedly feature Black Manta as the movie’s main villain.
Courtesy of The Wrap, we’ve learned that Jason Momoa’s Atlantean hero will have to confront Aquaman’s greatest enemy in James Wan’s forthcoming film. With all of this said, Warner Bros. still has not officially commented on whether or not Black Manta will actually appear in the film.
Aquaman opens in theaters on July 27, 2018 and will not serve as an origin story for the often taken-too-lightly Atlantean hero. In reference to director James Wan, the film will have an element of horror and an overall scary tone.
You will be able to see Momoa on the silver-screen before his standalone film debuts, though. He will be seen as the iconic DC hero in Justice League, that is as of now, set for a 2017 release date.
Wan also released a statement entailing the following:
“The thing about Aquaman that’s cool is he’s not an alien, right? He’s from our planet and he’s from a society that we’re not privy to in the context of the story. Isn’t it crazy to think that we’ve explored space more than we have explored the depths of our ocean? That just fires up my imagination about potential sea monsters and cool creatures.”
